Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I have my
carpets cleaned?
There are several factors
that should be taken into consideration when determining the length of
time between cleanings. Some of the more common factors include: How
often your carpets are vacuumed (you should vacuum a minimum of once a
week). How much foot traffic do you have on a regular basis? Do you have
pets? Do you have young children? Is there is a protective coating on
the carpets such asScotchgard®
or Teflon®? Are there any family members that
have allergies? These are some questions to ask yourself when
determining the length of time between cleanings, however, the
EPA studies suggest that in a normal environment, a residence
with pets and children should be cleaned every 3 - 6 months. We find
that many of our clients have the most frequently used areas cleaned
every 6 months and the rest done annually. This seems to deliver the
best results for both health and appearance.
Are the chemicals you use to
clean my carpets safe for my children, pets and the environment?
Yes! All of the cleaning
agents Long’s Carpet Cleaning uses on carpets are safe, non-toxic and
biodegradable. They are among the most highly tested in the industry and
have been created with the safety of those who live on them in mind.
How long will it take for my
carpet and upholstery to dry after they are cleaned?
We are able to recover over 95% of
the moisture from cleaning. This allows your upholstery to dry within
about 2-3 hours and approximately 4-6 hours for carpet.
Will having my carpets cleaned
affect my warranty?
Long’s Carpet Cleaning is
certified by approximately 50 of the top mill producers of carpeting.
Our cleaning will not adversely affect your warranty. These same fiber
producers actually recommend a proper professional warm water extraction
as part of their warranty program. This will help to insure your carpets
will perform for you and last for many years.
Will having my carpets cleaned
protect them from future stains or becoming dirty again?
Cleaning your carpets will
lengthen their life and enhance their beauty, but Long’s Carpet Cleaning
can also apply a
protective coating
such as Scotchgard®or
Teflon® to help prevent future stains and allow for easier cleanup of
spills. A protective coating will keep your rugs cleaner longer and
reduce the likelihood of permanent staining
How does Scotchgard® keep my
freshly cleaned carpeting looking new longer?
This newest “Scotchgard®” Protector is
one of a family of “Scotchgard®” products that have been developed over
the last 25 years. It is backed by the same meticulous quality standards
that have made the name “Scotchgard®” synonymous with fabric protection.
A professional spray-treatment with “Scotchgard®” Carpet Protector
provides a protective barrier that makes it difficult for dirt particles
to cling to carpet fibers. Routine vacuuming becomes more effective
allowing your carpets to look cleaner longer. And a cleaner carpet means
less wear and a brighter appearance. With this long lasting barrier on
your carpet, most spills can be easily cleaned up.
Is it true that when a carpet
is cleaned it will re-soil much quicker?
This usually is a result of
residue being left behind from high pH (soap) products. This can also
happen if technicians do not take the time to thoroughly clean all
soilage from carpeting. Our products are low in pH and we always take
the time to remove all soilage leaving carpets clean and bright.
What can I do to prepare
for my carpet cleaning service?
• Move small items and breakables from
the area to be cleaned.
• Remove items from furniture that can cause excess weight such as book
and knick-knacks if we are to move
and clean underneath. Remember to clean out drawers that are full of
heavy items.
• Advise of any special considerations prior to your service. Our
cleaning specialists should be
told of any special requirements when moving your furniture (i.e., weak
legs, loose tops, etc.) We will only move furniture that is reasonably
moveable for one person.
• Remove any small pieces of furniture such as dining room chairs,
magazine racks, etc. from the carpet which is to be cleaned. This will
shorten processing time and return the carpet to normal use sooner.
What can I expect your
cleaning technician to do?
• Pre-inspection: We will evaluate your
carpet's needs. Every carpet must be treated
differently. We will decide what will be the best method for
cleaning your carpet. You will
know up front what we can and can't do. This way there are no surprises.
• Moving Furniture: When necessary we will move and replace small
furniture in its original position.
• Pre-treatment: We treat spots and stains in the carpet as necessary
and apply a carpet cleaning
solution to the entire carpet.
• Carpet Cleaning: We use our state-of-the-art Baneclene equipment for a
fast and thorough deep cleaning of your carpet.
• Post-inspection: Once the project is completed, we re-inspect the
carpet cleaning services with you
to ensure that all the work was done to your satisfaction.
• Protect & Groom: When necessary we will place blocks or foil under
furniture legs to protect them
during the drying process and groom the carpet for a clean inviting
look.
Why do some stains reappear
after the carpets have dried?
Usually reappearing stains
are a direct result of liquid spills penetrating through the carpet into
the padding. When moisture is applied the resulting liquid can wick to
the surface causing the reappearing stain. Usually these stains can be
blotted up with a towel. Also some petroleum based stains can reappear
if the proper spotting agent is not used. These types of stains must be
dissolved before removal is attempted. Long’s Carpet Cleaning
technicians have the training and products to safely take care of these
issues.
What should I do after the
carpet cleaning?
To decrease drying time, try to keep the
room temperature about 72 degrees and use fans to circulate the air
around the cleaned carpet. It is also best to stay off the carpet as
much as possible until it is dry. If you have to walk on the damp carpet
use caution when walking off the carpet onto any hard surface because it
could be slippery.
